was caught in the 1870-1890 depression and lost pretty much everything as they had their own money at risk with zero protection, as more people moved west for opportunities. Leaving them to sell there farms and business to survive. The Cash side took their remaining money and took care of share croppers during these hard times until most everything was gone Then in the 1920-21 when depression hit.
Banker's in many cases skip town with everyone money no FDIC insurance.
Story from my other grandfather. He bought and owned a small farm in 1919. Some people didn't trust banks so they buried their money. When he bought the farm, he dug up enough money on the farm to fill the kitchen table. He took that money to the bank and paid off the note on the farm. Being honest as he was, he tore the note up in front of the banker and through it away. End of the month the banker was at his door step with a forged note demanding payment a few months later the depression hit and the banker left town with all the money.
Happy times are here again 2008-2010 leaving the middle class of America Crushed.
