Many brokerages now charge a fee for getting paper

Many brokerages now charge a fee for getting paper certificates. A good way of discouraging people from doing that. I think if we all asked, we'd all get our certificates -- because I agree with others that most of the shorting is naked shorting so it doesn't show up anyway.
