There is no reason to suppose that any of CTIX's drugs are going to fail, given the fact that the company has stated that so far they have had 100% success rate with clinical trials, and the fact that the Bril-UP trial was announced AFTER the company had seen what was going on within the Bril-OM trial. There was quite a discussion about the fact that the company DOES get to review raw data, even in a double-blinded study. It is entirely reasonable to assume that Brilacidin-OM results could be extrapolated, given the high percentage of patients who develop oral mucositis. A significant decrease in those numbers by the patient cohort would be indicative of success whether or not it's known which patients got placebo. The fact that the company also changed their wording to flat-out state that it "exhibited anti-inflammatory activity" (whatever the exact wording was) also indicates that they had seen something in the OM trials that allowed them to make that statement. Taken in conjunction with their commencement of the Bril-UP trial based on that, it seems reasonable to assume that at least Bril-OM is headed down the right pathway. Because the UP is significantly behind the OM trial in timeline, and because the company is adding more sites to the OM trial to speed up recruitment, it's reasonable to think that the Bril-OM trial will have at least interim results to post before the Bril-UP trial does. Since we're dealing in hypotheticals here, what if the Bril-OM trial is a success (as seems likely now) and then (in the scenario that is ONLY hypothetical) the Bril-UP trial fails? Well, CTIX will have gone to a much higher stock price on the basis of the Bril-OM trial, so who knows?
And that's the answer to your question. What happens if a drug fails? Who knows, because we don't know what OTHER drug trials may have caused the stock price to rise before the hypothetical failure.
And your premise is false. Brilacidin-UP is NOT "front and center."
When a new poster appears with several posts that look like they could be soft bashing, and then starts a post with "what if a drug fails" -- on a day when the stock is already being attacked -- I think you can understand why people are curious about whether you are being disingenuous. I hope that is not the case.
