Some things I just looked into regarding Zwagbox growth potential. Comparison to early phase Ipsy and Michelle Phan:
1) The first Ipsy subscription box went out in November 2011 (It was called myglam then).
2) At the time she started, she had less than 2 million youtube followers. Markiplier has around 13.5 million now to start with. Michelle Phan now has 8.6 million subscribers.
3) In ~10 months, the number of subscribers grew from nothing to 100,000.
4) The youtube platform and monthly "unboxings" vastly outperformed longer established and better funded Birchbox. Proving the power of youtube as it pertains to subscription boxes.
5) According to alexa.com, 40% of traffic to zwagbox.com is from youtube. Remember, that he has only done one plug at the end of one video in May. Compare that to the much lower traffic rate from facebook where Mark has posted numerous times on top of paid advertisements from red giant. The shear force behind his youtube channel is IMMENSE as it pertains to gaining subscribers for Zwagbox. I can only hope that REDG does an "unboxing" every month.
Discussion: The ipsy boxes cost $10 a month, while Zwagbox costs $16-20 a month. Also, Michelle Phans audience is very specifically interested in beauty products. Whereas, Markiplier's audience is slightly less directly related to Zwagbox's contents...although still very much interested in the same category and are of the ideal demographic.
...While the lower price and slightly more directly interested audience of Michelle Phan gave her some advantages in growing subscription numbers so fast, the huge advantage in subscriber numbers and video views that Markiplier has at the beginning of Zwagbox should more than make up for the difference. (It's kind of hard to say the lower price is an advantage because in the end the $ coming in is what matters...so let's call that a wash)
I personally feel that Zwagbox has as big an advantage as any subscription box has ever had at startup. I think we will be blown away at subscriber growth (if they even share it...they said they wouldn't, but then busted out the 10,000 number so idk). The key is to do "unboxings" every month...it is essential. Basically 5 minutes of video per month results in millions more dollars per year imo.
Ipsy is now worth around 500 million dollars.
