A powerful photo shows people lining up on the I-45 overpass as the procession for one of the five officers killed in the Dallas police ambush passes by.
Hundreds of police officers, first responders and civilians were on hand as the body of Brent Thompson, a Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer, was driven 55 miles from Dallas to his hometown of Corsicana.
The hearse was escorted by a massive motorcade, including dozens of police cars, seven police motorcycles and several emergency response vehicles.
Hundreds of Thompson's fellow officers and civilians saluted and paid their respects to the fallen officer as the convoy passed.
Thompson, 43, was a father and grandfather. He had just married a fellow DART officer two weeks ago.
"Brent was a great officer," said James Spiller, chief of DART Police. "He was an outstanding patrol officer as well as a rail officer. We have the highest respect for him."
