Alamance-filmed horror 'Dark Awakenings' now available at Wal-Mart
Film written, directed by Alamance County natives Dean and Starr Jones
"Dark Awakening," the horror film by Alamance County natives Dean and Starr Jones, is now available at Wal-Mart stores nationwide, Hannover House announced Tuesday.
"'Dark Awakening' is one of the best independent horror films to be released in the past decade," said Eric Parkinson, C.E.O. of Hannover House, an independent film distribution company with more than 400 titles in its library. "Director Dean Jones has added a terrifying twist to the haunted-house premise with a powerful, surprise ending that left audiences jumping and screaming. We think that this title will become a video classic in the vein of 'Halloween' and 'Amityville Horror.' It's definitely worth seeing and owning for future views."
The film stars Lance Henriksen of "Aliens" along with Jason Cook and Valerie Azlynn. It also features cameos by a number of Alamance County residents, including William Pifer of Haw River, a young actor. Dean and Starr Jones are known for their Original Hollywood Horror Show, a walk-through haunted attraction in Snow Camp. Dean Jones directed and produced the film. Starr Jones also served as producer along with Liliana Kligman-Roitman and Albert T. Dickerson.
The film opened in theaters last June with showings at more than 40 cities in the United States.
It is unrated (PG-13 equivalent, according to Hannover House) and is 91 minutes long. The videos will be $14.95 but will be available for a limited time for $9.96 at Wal-Mart.
