for GLOBAL WARMING Event
File this one under "the pot calling the kettle black."
Hollywood superstar Leonardo DiCaprio is hosting a gala dinner for his climate change foundation later this month, inviting a who's who of A-listers, models and philanthropists.
Instead of hosting the event in Los Angeles, however, DiCaprio is throwing the bash in the luxurious French resort destination St. Tropez.
That means that each guest coming from Los Angeles will be flying 6,000 miles each way, releasing a minimum seven tons of carbon dioxide.
Each guest who makes the 12,000-mile round trip in a private jet will produce a staggering 86 tons of carbon dioxide.
The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation Annual Gala To Fund Climate and Biodiversity Projects, which will be held on July 20 at the Bertaud Belieu Vineyards on the French Riviera, is expected to be attended by dozens of stars like Robert De Niro, Scarlett Johansson, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Kevin Spacey.
DiCaprio was criticized earlier this year for taking a private jet to accept an environmental protection award.
Robert Rapier, an environmental analyst, told The Daily Mail, "DiCaprio demonstrates why our consumption of fossil fuels continues to grow. It’s because everyone loves the combination of cost and convenience they offer."
"He believes that no sacrifice is necessary, just government policies that can provide him with a solar-powered yacht or jet, or that give individuals low-cost renewable energy on a broad scale."
