("Mid Penn" (NASDAQ:MPB), the parent company of Mid Penn Bank, today reported net income available to common shareholders (earnings) for the three months ended March 31, 2016 of $1,805,000 or $0.43 per common share basic and diluted, as compared to earnings of $876,000 or $0.23 per common share basic and diluted, for the three months ended March 31, 2015. Earnings per common share for the first quarter of 2016 increased 87% over the same period in 2015. The results for the three months ended March 31, 2015 were impacted by $762,000 in non-recurring merger-related expenses associated with Mid Penn's acquisition of Phoenix Bancorp, Inc. ("Phoenix" on March 1, 2015. Mid Penn's earnings for the three months ended March 31, 2016 were 28% higher than adjusted earnings for the first quarter of 2015 of $1,413,000, which excluded the after-tax impact of the Phoenix merger-related expenses.
