RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Slide the City took over downtown Richmond today. The Chick-Fil-A sponsored event brought out thousands for fun in the sun.
“I think this is going to have to be an annual event for sure,” one fan told 8News.
Chick-Fil-A’s thousand foot slip and slide was unlike any other event in Richmond in recent memory.
“I didn’t expect it to be so fast. I went down and it was like a canon, out of a canon hole, it was so fast,” another participant said.
Both parents and kids lined the streets of downtown Richmond to take their turn down the longest water slide the city has ever seen.
“I like to go fast and I like the water a lot,” one little girl said.
Another man said he was also excited about the event.
“This was my birthday present, sliding down the city of Richmond is pretty special. It’s a pretty unique thing. And then, doing it with my daughter makes it a lot of fun,” the man said.
Part of the proceeds of Richmond’s first Slide the City will go to benefit the Special Olympics and already Richmonders are making plans for the next one.
One fan said, “If you see it for next year, buy you tickets early. It’s a blast.”
