Both Sides Don’t Do It: Republicans Voted To Let Terror Suspects Legally Buy Guns

By Sarah Jones on Mon, Jun 13th, 2016 at 1:44 pm

Every Senate Republican but one voted to protect the rights of terror suspects to buy a gun.

When it comes to the gun issue, there really are sides and both sides do not “do it”. Both sides are not equally complicit.

On December 3, 2015, U.S. Senate Republicans blocked legislation that would have prevented known or suspected terrorists from buying guns.

This legislation is still being suffocated by the NRA puppets in Congress, even as dedicated responsible gun ownership Democrats like Senators Schumer, Feinstein, Nelson and Blumenthal try to resuscitate it.

Here’s the vote:

So no. Both sides don’t do it when it comes to allowing terrorists to legally buy guns here.

As Senate Democrats push to finally pass the “Denying Firearms And Explosives To Dangerous Terrorists Act Of 2015”, which works to prevent people who are on the terror watchlist, no fly lists, and other suspected terrorists from legally buying guns, the grieving nation grows despondent.

How many times must we ask how many people must die before we can at least be allowed by the NRA and Republicans to deny terrorists from legally buying a gun.

“We will find a way to bring this to a vote, we had a party line vote last time – one Dem voted against it, one Republican for it,” Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) said in a conference call with reporters today.

Referring to the 2015 San Bernardino shootings and the Orland shootings, the Democratic Senator continued, “I believe that our colleagues are going to find it difficult to ignore. We’ve had two incidents where this kind of legislation would be relevant.”

What possible motive is there to push so relentlessly to legally sell terrorists weapons, if not profit? Republicans need to be asked about why they voted to protect the rights of terrorists and terror suspects.

For those who say this isn’t partisan or this isn’t the time to be partisan, apparently Republicans feel differently because after each mass shooting they refuse to take even a modicum of action toward sanity and responsibility.

I would posit that continuing to blind side with the NRA no matter how many innocent Americans are terrorized is not a good look. It could lead to accusations of being pro-terrorists.

Because in fact, blocking our ability to deny terrorists a legal assault weapon is pro-terrorist.

There are many issues on which our Congress fails us, Democrat and Republican alike. The gun issue is not one of them. There really are sides and it matters.
