You may not like the Dem system, but let's not kid each other. if Bernie had the advantage with the super delegates you'd be rubbing your palms together in anticipation of running against the 'commie'.
Here's the explanation. It make perfect sense in light of the electoral history of the Dem Party, as described.
And, the system has resulted in the nomination of two Dem candidates who've each won two terms over the past 24 years.

But after the landslide defeat of George McGovern in 1972 and Jimmy Carter in 1980, the feeling was some recalibration was needed, leavening the will of the people with the presumed wisdom of political insiders. Hence the birth of superdelegates
