Spanish public broadcaster RTVE selected Ateme’s Titan solution to encode a 4K signal during its first live broadcasting in Ultra HD.
ateme 4kUsing Ateme technology, the signal was encoded in real time at 30Mbps by RTVE, enabling satellite and terrestrial delivery across Spain.
Titan is a virtualised software-based encoder-transcoder, designed for cable, direct-to-home (DTH) and over-the-top (OTT) delivery. It supports HEVC, H.264 and MPEG-2 codecs, with resolutions from mobile devices to 4K-UHD.
“The project was experimental and very ambitious. Encoding being the heart of the transmission chain, we needed to rely on an experienced and reliable partner to make it successful,” said Pere Vila, director of technology and innovation at RTVE. “Through Ateme’s dedicated efforts, we were able to successfully provide our viewers with an image quality four times superior to the current high definition standards.”
Having taken place on 21 April, the Europe-wide project also relied on Hispasat and Cellnex and the collaboration of Albalá Ingenieros, Kinépolis, Hurí, Ovide, EVS, Dolby, Ericsson, Samsung, Abacanto Soluciones, SAPEC and Hewlett Packard.
“We are extremely proud that again our Titan solution was deployed by a tier one broadcaster in Spain such as RTVE,” added Vincent Pedregno, sales manager for Southern Europe, Ateme.
