Before I jump into my response, let me first say that I was emphasizing the importance of international military engagements in respect to securing world markets for our goods. There is a greater question of how much military intervention should be employed to secure our moral existence as well. As I see it, we have many differing opinions on this last motivator and the final answer should be debated in the halls of congress and not in the closed quarters of the west wing.
Now, my opinion on trade. Like all middle class Americans, I am in favor of free trade. It is a net benefit (usually) for all of us. The conditions of trade should always be completely transparent with all parties having an equal stake in the success of said agreement. (all parties being both parties govt and both parties people.) The current trade deal is a big unknown to me at this point. I, have not seen the text of said agreement and I am doubtful, as you said, that my senators have properly reviewed them.
Transparency is key. It is also fleeting. Our govt has been anything but transparent in spite of their promises otherwise. maybe with new management, we will see different results, but, I am doubtful as we will probably have the same bureaucrats and we all know, they run the govt not our elected officials.
