I don't think anyone here has a problem with legal shorting, I sure don't and that is what that number represents. Abusive naked shorting on the other hand is criminal and is hidden in ex clearing. Abusive naked shorting is done by hedge funds, investment banks, insurance companies, etc. from offshore. None of these firms would ever willingly admit what they are doing and the way the system is set up it is virtually impossible to prove. Our brokerage firms are allowing this to happen by not demanding good delivery for their clients.
