Samsung and Toshiba shelved plans for ultrathin nanotube TVs years ago Attempts to use nanotubes to make processors or memory devices remain in the experimental stages. Some of the original patents may soon even enter the public domain.
But don’t give up home. NREL published a paper this week demonstrating that carbon nanotubes and fullerenes, pure carbon spheres that are close relatives to nanotubes, could possibly be used in conjunction to increase the efficiency of solar cells.
