M&I Electric’s IntelliSafe™ Arc-Resistant Switchgear Wins EC&M Magazine Product of the Year Award

Second generation IntelliSafe TM Arc-Resistant Switchgear Incorporates Patent Pending Safety Features, 100 Percent PIP Specification Compliance, and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) Capabilities

HOUSTON, April 18, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- M&I Electric, the flagship business of American Electric Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: AETI ), a leading provider of power delivery solutions for the global energy industry, announced today that its new IntelliSafe™ arc-resistant switchgear has been awarded the prestigious 2016 Product of the Year Award by Electrical Construction & Maintenance (EC&M) magazine.

EC&M selected M&I Electric’s new IntelliSafe™ Arc-Resistant Medium Voltage Switchgear as 2016 Product of the Year in the Power Distribution Equipment category. All product entries were judged by a panel of electrical experts including engineers, contractors and plant personnel selected by the EC&M editorial staff from a pool of the magazine’s readers.

The EC&M Product of the Year competition was established in 2000 to honor excellence in new product development in the electrical industry. The prestigious awards program showcases the most innovative products of the past year and recognizes the talent and commitment of the people involved in product development - from concept through commercialization. EC&M bestows these awards on inventive products that help electrical professionals do their jobs more efficiently and effectively.

All entries will be featured in a special printed tabloid showcase, which will be mailed with the April issue of EC&M and May issue of Electrical Wholesaling . Further, all category winners will be included in an EC&M subscriber website poll to determine the 2016 Overall Product of the Year Platinum, Gold and Silver winners.

The second generation IntelliSafe™ switchgear is a fully customizable, smart arc-resistant switchgear available to support a new level of safety for companies in the petroleum, power generation and other process industries. The IntelliSafe™ switchgear features a patent pending door design with fewer failure points than existing industry solutions, front and rear door interlocks, a mechanical through door breaker lockout system, motorized breaker racking, remote monitoring and control through a human machine interface (HMI), industrial internet of things capability, trending of key data points for preventive maintenance, 100 percent compliance with Process Industry Practices (PIP) specifications, and it meets or exceeds critical IEEE industry standards.

IntelliSafe™ is part of the M&I Electric turnkey power delivery solutions portfolio which includes custom-designed MV and LV traditional switchgear, Power Distribution Centers (PDCs), power conversion equipment, automation and control solutions, construction and E&I services.

"We are very pleased to have been selected as a category winner for the EC&M 2016 Product of the Year competition," said Neal Hare, chief technology officer for M&I Electric. "We believe our new IntelliSafe™ switchgear solves some of the critical issues with current arc-resistant switchgear in the market today and allows our customers to maximize critical life-saving protection for their employees and other operational personnel.”
