Always looking for short opportunities, I've run across most of those...including a number of others which have completely ceased operations (PTOI actually falls into that category). Of the ones I know, not one is making any money and the laws of economics say the rest aren't either. Plastic-to-oil doesn't make money--the oil produced is invariably worth less than the plastic which went in. Just because PTOI isn't telling you that fact doesn't mean that they've broken the laws of economics--it just means Mr. Heddle is a despicable man who is comfortable lying to shareholders. Mr. Heddle showed everyone his true colors when he let investors go on thinking production was still ramping up for six months while the plant was completely out of commission.
Economics: A gallon of diesel weighs about 100 oz and the spot price is a bit over $1/gallon. Literally about $0.01 per oz. Pound for pound, that's significantly less than scrap plastic is worth to recyclers.
If someone can collect a million empty milk jugs (2 oz each) and convert them completely to pure, saleable diesel, they will get $20,000. So go out and collect 500 jugs/hr for 40 hrs/week for 50 weeks/yr and you'll make $20k or around $10/hr. My recommendation is if you want to start that line of work, first see if you're up to the task by visiting a landfill and see if you can collect the equivalent of 100 milk jugs in twelve minutes...just don't get any PET, PVC, nylon, etc... in there.
