my review of schwab vs scottrade i just opened
Post# of 75002
i just opened a charles schwab account yesterday. now i have a scottrade and a schwab acct. opinions after one day.....the schwab charges me $8.95 per trade for a penny stock whereas scottrade will charge me a variable rate for penny stock purchases depending on the purchasing price and its never less than $12 for a small purchased and can be upwards of $40 for a purchase of $7k in penny stocks. the nod goes to schwab.
buying options are a bit better on schwab as they will allow placing short positions on stocks which is something i do not have on my scottrade account. i'm not a shorter but hey..its nice to have that option.
schwab also allows me to purchase stocks that scottrade will not, which is why i had to open an account as there was one stock that i wanted to buy that was just too esoteric for scottrade.
scottrade charges $7 purchases for common index stocks, so its a bit cheaper than schwab by $2 per transaction, though if you have an account big enough schwab will reduce their fee to match scottrade in order to get your business.
scottrade has a WAY better home screen, organization, appearance, watch lists, and charts whereas schwab lets you see a bunch of text. scottrade blows away schwab in that category.
i like watching my RMHB on my scottrade screen way more than my SFOR on my schwab screen.
