I think about Alpha Natural Resources....ha!...

It's cheaper........and it's ugly as hell. Straight up...coal mining areas are beat up and ugly. The cleanest and most expensive is underground...that goes beyond coal. The truth is that coal is 40% of electricity produced in this country as well as globally(+-2). Solar can not provide base load power...there are only two base load solar plants worldwide(Spain/United States). It can go nowhere unless subsidized...and those subsidies have hurt the biomass industry hard. I have been wanting to install a 10kw with backup storage....but it is hard to justify the cost even with the tax break.
With regards to republican outrage....I think it is directed at the emission and effect. The latest have hurt the waste to energy and biomass industry very hard....like coal. Then the situation shifts to plants switching to natural gas.....but when natty gas shoots the moon....the dilemma arises yet once again. BOTTOM LINE...it is all hypocrisy within both parties.
But it's not the gas companies...the landowners are to blame with lease rights.
