...strange that , as advanced as modern medicine is , they still don't have a rapid (& cheap) way of differentiating between bacterial & viral illnesses. The lack of having something seemingly as basic as this plays a large part in the drug-resistant infections problem we are faced with these days. Doctors know that it does no good to prescribe an antibiotic for a viral infection , yet they are called upon to do 'something' to quickly alleviate serious infections & have no choice but to prescribe antibiotics , hoping (with no certainty) that it is in-fact a targeted bacterial infection.
