Well let's see, if we set up a government bureaucracy to protect us from drug companies selling inferior/harmful products, that means it takes 10's or 100's of millions to get a drug approved for sale. Why in the hell would a company do that if they can't make the money back? The cost of failed drugs must also be recouped from the successes as well.
Ask yourself this; why is a Pediatric Priority Review Voucher worth north of 300 million dollars when all it does is get the FDA to handle their business in a (somewhat) timely manner?
