JFK understood the power and influence of the RCC in the politics of the United States. This was during the time of secret societies....not that they have gone away. He knew without that pledge he was not electable.
No, you're NOT making valid points. JFK made the speech to counter anti-Catholic bigotry just like the kind you've espoused on this board. (Don't bother. There are way too many posts that confirm that fact.)
He made an appeal to basic fairness and to the primacy of the Constitution with its prohibition of religious test for office.
'Secret societies' my ass. My dad was a member of the Knights of Columbus.....so that he could join their bowling league!

Come now. Even as a US citizen I had to take a pledge to join the military. Why ? Takes anything I do out of the civil justice system and into a Military court.
it was an oath, and I swore to it as well:
Quote:
"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed ...
And there was no 'evasion' of the 'civil justice system'.
We were subject to the UCMJ, that's all.
Hilary has taken much the same oath for the Senate and SOS.
And that Constitution you swore to preserve, protect and defend includes provisions for 'due process', which include a requirement for EVIDENCE and afford NO consideration whatsoever for ass-on-fire allegations.
Either the FBI refers findings with a recommendation to the DOJ, or they don't.
Then you can put your foil hat on and regale us with your theories of how Obama and Loretta are 'protecting' Hillary.
I can hardly f*cking wait!
