Ahhh! So the study wasn't actually 'canceled' . Instead, the trial was received in 2008 and suspended because the men and women behind Spectra Science realized they needed to improve their technology before continuing on with the trial.
How do I know this? Because it says, "company continues to develop the technology". They discovered at some point during the trial their technology wasn't sufficient enough, so they had to 'DEVELOP' it.
So what does this mean? I HAVE NO CLUE! Just kidding . Keep reading..

See where this is going? Back in 2008 to 2011, Spectra Science was investigating the WavSTAT4's capabilities to detect cancer in the throat (Barrett's), but the technology they wanted either didn't exist at the time, or they didn't have the money to create it themselves.
So what did they do about it?
Instead of pouting and crying over the fact that their WavSTAT didn't have the capabilities at the time to properly detect Barrett’s Esophagus, they put the study on the backburner and continued to develop the WavSTAT4 model to better detect colorectal cancer.
I bet, once this acquisition with Oncoscope is complete, and they integrate the technology into the WavSTAT4, SCIE will initiate a new investigation trial for Barrett's.
Or better yet, behind closed doors, Spectra Science has another product we don't even know about!
Right now, you might be saying, "Oh come on Joey68, this time you've gone TOO FAR! SCIE does NOT have another product besides the WavSTAT4. Joey68, you've done one too many DD posts. You cray-cray!"

That does say two products in development, right? How many products do we know about? We know of the WavSTAT4 and.....? It also says 'On the market:1'. That has to be the WavSTAT4 because its showing up on the PENTAX Germany/Spain/UK site as available.
We know SCIE just acquired Oncoscope. Why is it automatically assumed Oncoscope technology will be crammed into the WavSTAT4? Wouldn't it make more sense to create a totally separate device for Barrett's Esophagus? Time will tell.
And so, this trial back in 2008-2011 was canceled because they needed to find the right technology. In the meantime, they continued their research, trials, and improvements on the WavSTAT4. Eventually, someone at SCIE had a conversation like this:
"Hey Michael Oliver, remember that trial for Barrett's we suspended years ago because we didn't have the technology?
"Yes."
"You know how we've been trying to get our hands on the technology?"
"Yes."
"I found out Oncoscope has the tech and theyre going out of business. Let's buy their tech and incorporate it into our portfolio. Once we do that, we can start that trial back up, get the results, and market it."
"Sounds good, lets do it."
Hence... the Oncoscope acquisition. Which means, all this time, despite nay-sayers trying to tell us Spectra Science management has been doing nothing for the past 5 years, in reality, they've been actively investigating ways to enhance their product. Let the games begin.
