Setting some "great DD" from the ostrich board rig
Post# of 2009
Some fuzz about Amazon releasing 600 4K titles, as the title from this article proclaims "A complete list of 600 new 4K UHD titles and 27 new HDR 4K titles being released by Amazon Prime". http://4k.com/news/a-complete-list-of-600-tit...ime-12685/
which provoked posts like:

Wow. Wonder what the timing is...or if NTEK has any involvement?
Quote:
NTEK should still be able to beat AMAZON with that 600 4K titles uploaded in 2016...NTEK should come closer to 1000 titles loaded in 2016 and they will be into loading 4K+HDR titles
by 2nd half of 2016.

Amazon will offer a lot of Columbia Pictures films and some from TriStar/Sony, Miramax, as well as Amazon exclusive titles. At the moment, we don't know the following:
When will these titles be available, exactly?
How much will Amazon charge for each film?
How is Amazon handling the compression?

That's not so good news!
Amazon Prime is coming to push very hard now with 600 new Titels.

Amazon Video charges a premiums for 4K content. I have seen it as high as $25 a movie.
Seems that non of these posters read that article, or did some digging;
First of all, when I saw that list of titles, it didn't seem like 600 titles. Doesn't require an ostrich eye to see that.
Actually, it's 27 in HDR, and 'just' 147 in non HDR 4k. And reading the article, the author writes "Here is a complete listing of all of Amazon’s new 4K HDR titles and below that, we offer up the complete list of Amazon 4K ultra HD content that’s coming in 2016 ."
So, Amazon will be releasing 147 titles throughout 2016, not 600 like the title might suggest, and what those pony posters swallowed without any hesitation. When the 27 HDR titles will be released is unclear in the article, but let's presume 2016.
Furthermore, "Amazon Video charges a premiums for 4K content" doesn't seem to be true. Bad DD, because on the Amazon website it says "Amazon Prime members can stream movies and TV series in 4K Ultra HD at no additional cost through the Amazon Video app on 4K Ultra HD compatible Smart TVs.". http://www.amazon.com/4K-UHD-TV-Resource-Guid...0195182011
So to answer questions raised by the ponies:
“ Wonder what the timing is ”: max. 174 titles in 2016
“ if NTEK has any involvement ”: don't think so, if UF is said to be a Amazon Prime competitor
“ NTEK should still be able to beat AMAZON with that 600 4K titles uploaded in 2016. ” Since there won't be 600 4K titles on Amazon this year, UF with currently about 450 4K cinema films should be OK
" At the moment, we don't know the following:
When will these titles be available, exactly? " > 174 at best in 2016
" How much will Amazon charge for each film? "> no additional cost if Prime member”
Half an hour of real DD.
I on the other hand wonder how many titles are native 4K / upscaled HD, and how the quality is compared to UF.
That would be interesting to know.
