Avatar gets a lot of press. Unfortunately for them

"The airline is currently awaiting approval from the US Department of Transport and the Federal Aviation Authority for operating authority as a commercial air carrier.
However, judging on its past record, it is unlikely to be granted approval.
In 1993 the FAA refused to give the newly formed Family Airlines approval, and after many lawsuits, the DOT forced chief executive Barry Michaels to relinquish control of the proposed airline.
Three years later, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed a suit against Michaels and his wife, for fraudulently offering unregistered stock for the airline. They were required to return $363,306 to the investors, and they had to pay $181,000 per person in civil penalties.
In 2008, Family Airlines filed another application with the DOT, which was rejected, after it emerged Mr Michaels was still at the helm.
In 2010 it changed its name to Avatar airlines and tried and failed again to get approval.
Michaels resigned in 2012 and now the company is trying again to get off the ground.
Cranky Flier author Brett Snyder writes the U.S. Department of Transportation rejected Family Airlines' request for passenger service certification in 2009 because it was 'concerned about (Family Air's) fitness in every area: managerial competence, finances, and compliance disposition.'
He added the basic premise was 'flawed' and said selling perks like a Founders Club membership ($3,000), may violate rules governing advertising by airlines not yet approved for passenger service.
'Sounds like Avatar is walking quite the fine line here,' Snyder writes."
