Okay , I'll bite.......for my part, I reckon 50% of 'something' is better than 100% of 'nothing'....such is the reality in the burgeoning Chinese marketplace for foreign OEM's. A conventional controlling interest of 51% would have been better , but 50/50 is still better than 49%. Even Disneys' go-it-alone business ethic had to concede to that realization when they built Disneyland Hong Kong. Not that that had anything to do with your question 
On the solar aspect; From the repeated emphasis lately , it appears as though QMC intends to bring some form of solar to the Chinese market in the nearterm. But with a recently acknowledged conversion eff rating of 8% , solo QD-solar would still seem a ways-off. On the flipside , an 8% ancillary boost to existing solar techs , or some form of efficient hybrid would seem a well worthwhile pursuit. An 8% rating might also be of some use in other small electronic low-voltage devices as well...various devices like signage perhaps , cell phones maybe[?].
