Both the number of MMs and the blocks shown contribute to whether the ask is thin or not. Exactly the same goes for the bid side.
It's probably best to study the L2, to watch it live. It takes a little while to recognize things but knowing L2 is a lot better than trading blind which many people do. L2 is essential for the OTC.
