Having a grandfather born in the late 1800's and a father born in the early 1900's doesn't validate your opinion anymore than me having a father born in 1921 does. Only tangible evidence can validate ones opinion. Here's my evidence:

As you can see, there was no situation that occurred, even during the Great Depression, that warranted a large drop in publicly listed firms from the New York Stock Exchange.
