Understood. I have a similar experience. But, that is why you and I would make a bad president. Pragmatic is great in the legislature but not as great in the executive branch.
The President is chartered with selecting candidates for the Supreme Court. Before we elect anybody, it would be wise if we understand his/her ideals and philosophy and we believe that he could make judicial selections that are consistent with what we believe. Someone who is pragmatic will tend to express the ideals and opinions that would best serve his/her objective. Unfortunately, if the person does this often enough, we, and perhaps the individual as well, can't really ascertain where that individual stands. Thus is the enigma of Mr. Trump.
a little pragmatism in executing the role of commander in chief and international negotiator might be valuable and I expect most of the candidates to be able to have at least a little pragmatism in their veins.
