The cold months always tend to be bearish and then people start buying again as it warms up. There's a couple other factors there too with regard to winter that I can't recall offhand now. Only that major selloffs are sort-of expected leading up to the new year.
Also, how are they calculating "short interest?" The average daily volume is roughly the same as it was in the 1st half of December, yet the "interest" is waaay down. I don't know jack about the complexities of short-selling, so somebody throw me a bone please?
