Prior to his political career, John Conyers served in the Michigan National Guard, the U.S. Army, the U.S. Army Reserves, and he briefly served as an officer in the U.S Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War. He ran for an open seat in the House of Representatives in 1964, and won. He has served in Congress from 1965 to present.
