DigitalTown.com Announces Professional Services Division for Building Digital Towns

SEATTLE, WA --(Marketwired - January 25, 2016) - DigitalTown, Inc. ( OTC PINK : DGTW ) today announced the launch of a Professional Services division to provide civic leaders with managed deployment of the DigitalTown™ platform in cities and towns. The new division is led by Seattle technology veteran Chris Maxwell.

In the United States alone there are 19,354 incorporated towns and cities across 3,007 counties. In the US, Internet penetration is now over 90% and smartphone penetration is over 80%. This according to Comscore. And yet not a single one of these towns or cities have a unified digital strategy for managing content, community and commerce. As a result, residents and businesses are left with a fragmented online community, largely being built at the grassroots level. DigitalTown offers cities and towns the opportunity to restore order and structure by deploying best of breed solutions for the benefit of the entire community, resulting in a more vibrant and connected local economy.

"Civic leaders have a long and storied history of providing their communities with physical infrastructure through policy making and capital investment. However, in modern times, with the consumer economy rapidly transitioning to the Internet, it is no longer responsible for civic leaders to blindly abdicate the online economy to the private sector. Within a generation, we have seen main street commerce get hollowed out through the prolific rise of big box retail and out of state ecommerce merchants. The DigitalTown platform is designed to put the local city hall back in the center of the local economy, both online and offline, " explained Rob Monster, CEO of DigitalTown.

Successful introduction of a Digital Town requires a multi-stakeholder approach. DigitalTown.com, founded in 2005, pioneered the Digital Town concept and has now brought together a professional services methodology to partner with civic leaders and their communities. With DigitalTown, civic leaders are able to deliver unified access to locally relevant Content, Community and Commerce via web and mobile devices. The result is a larger proportion of local resources being used to grow the local economy, and an improving balance of trade in favor of local businesses.

A DigitalTown offers towns and cities the ability to provide residents and businesses shared access to Content, Community and Commerce. The hosted platform eliminates the friction caused by the separate sign-ons that are currently in use across the local digital landscape, whether that be for communication, commerce, information, job search, event management, and much more. With DigitalTown, it is simple, seamless, and everyone can participate.

The professional services groups is led by Chris Maxwell, Executive Vice President of Professional Services, a veteran of technology management, previously with Amazon.com and Tellme Networks (acquired by Microsoft). Mr. Maxwell added, "Our professional services approach to the DigitalTown rollout maximizes adoption while minimizing execution risk. Our six step approach brings along all stakeholders in the process for conceiving, developing and operating the Digital Town, combining best of breed technology with local personality."
