One of the theories is that ETrade is used to dump and then notify the Transfer Agent. Or to be more precise, short, dump, and then notify the TA. They are a Clearing House and a broker.
Very convenient (and profitable) maneuver. Nobody cares or pretends not to care under normal market conditions. Add a special divy and a merger and everything gets complicated.
