I'm pretty sure the FAA already knows about this investigation and the corrupt employee(s).
With that in mind, what does a federal agency love more than holding a grudge??
Showing the country how proactive they have been in addressing the problem since learning about it. Showing everyone how transparent they are and how much they espouse integrity. And, most importantly, stating what they are doing to address the issue and the steps being taken to prevent future occurrences.
Once it's public, it has to be addressed.
