Excellent demand for apartments at Kalasatama REDI’s first tower
Pre-marketing of apartments in the first residential tower Majakka at REDI, Finland’s largest urban construction project, began yesterday, 12 January. In just over a day, more than 150 of Majakka’s 283 apartments had been reserved, and new reservations are arriving all the time. For some of the apartments, more than one reservation has even been made.
“In recent years, over 7,000 names had preregistered for REDI apartments, testifying to the fact that people were interested in the project. We simply couldn’t have believed, however, that it would be so popular. Quite frankly, demand for the apartments of the first tower has been excellent. Anyone interested in the Majakka tower will now really have to hurry,” says Antero Nuutinen , SRV’s Senior Vice President, Housing in Finland.
The REDI complex at Kalasatama, Helsinki, is Finland’s largest on-going urban construction project. Construction work on the shopping centre and parking facility are currently under way.
“The construction of the first residential tower Majakka will start this year, as soon as the shopping centre construction phase technically allows this. All in all, eight tower buildings, six of which are residential towers, will rise at REDI. The foundations of all of these towers will be completed in connection with the construction of the shopping centre and parking facility. A total of 1,200 housing units will be completed in the REDI towers in the coming year, so many more will be available even after the Majakka tower is full,” explains Merja Rainio , Sales Manager, REDI Housing.
When it is completed at the end of 2018, Majakka, which will reach a height of 132 metres, will be Finland’s tallest residential building. Its apartments will be located above the shopping centre on floors 6–35, ensuring magnificent views over Kalasatama from all levels. Majakka will also offer housing units for various life situations and needs: apartment sizes vary from a 33 square metre two-room unit to a 142.5 square metre luxury apartment on the top floor of the tower. According to the floor, the apartments will have three different equipment levels, in addition to which residents can select their preferred colour scheme from three different options.
“The Majakka apartments have been designed so that all of the tower building’s valuable floor area is used effectively. For example, instead of a balcony, the apartments will have a warm conservatory equipped with a movable glass wall, which can be used as a terrace, a dining space or even as an extension of the living room. Some of the bedrooms have been implemented with an alcove layout, creating more space for the living room and dining area. High-rise living will be evident in the apartments particularly in terms of brightness, which will be delivered not only by the wall-high windows of the conservatories, but also by the apartments’ greater than usual room height,” continues Nuutinen.
A starting point for the design of the REDI housing units has been easier, more convenient everyday living. Majakka’s residents will be able to enjoy an entirely new kind of residential service package. In Majakka, the home will extend outside the walls of residents’ own apartments, due diverse, high-quality joint services. For example, on the 33rd floor of the tower will be located a club floor with reception and sauna facilities and a terrace, which will be available to all residents and owned by the housing company. Majakka’s entrance will be situated at street level, and there residents will be served by a concierge-type lobby service. Residents will also have at their disposal an online portal via which they can use and order various services.
REDI as a whole will consist of the Helsinki inner city’s largest retail and experience centre, six residential towers, and hotel and office towers. The REDI shopping centre will open its doors in 2018. REDI residents’ lives will also be made easier by excellent transport links in all directions. Kalasatama metro station will be located on the shopping centre’s third floor, in addition to which there will be bus stops next to REDI. Moreover, the planned eastern cycling route would also pass through REDI. Below the centre will be a 2,000-space parking facility, usable by both the towers’ residents and the shopping centre’s customers.

132 metres. REDI’s first residential tower, Majakka, will on completion be Finland’s tallest residential building. Helin & Co Architects is the main designer of the tower and the whole of REDI.
35 floors. Majakka’s apartments will be located on floors 6–35. For the common use of residents, a club floor with reception facilities, saunas and a 200-metre terrace will be located on the 33rd floor. The tower’s yard area and additional common facilities, such as a laundry rooms and saunas, will be situated on the 5th floor. On the same level, a public park the size of Esplanadi Park in central Helsinki will spread out over the roof of the shopping centre.

Majakka’s range of apartments extends in terms of floor area from a 36 square metre two-room unit (33 m2 + conservatory 3 m2) to a luxury 142.5 square metre apartment (128.5 m2 + conservatory 14.0 m2) on the top floor of the tower. The average size of the apartments is 63 square metres, including the conservatories. The equipment level of the units varies according to the floor. The Sky apartments, located on the top two floors of the tower, are designed to fulfil the highest expectations.

500 metro departures. Kalasatama metro station will located on the shopping centre’s third floor, where the metro will stop 500 times per day. REDI is easily accessible by other forms of public transport, by bicycle and on foot as well as by car, which can be parked in a 2 000-space parking facility.
