The circumference of our planet is approximately 25,000 miles. It is rotating a little over 1,000 miles per hour and traveling through space at a speed of 70,000 miles per hour. Our atmosphere is only 5 miles high. This is only a very thin layer of air that keeps us alive. Airplanes must be pressurized as the oxygen is insufficient for passengers to survive at cruising altitudes of approximately 32,000 feet.
Our atmosphere on earth is very fragile. We lose a small amount of our atmosphere into space continuously and if we don't act to preserve it, the consequences are obvious.
