G.hn technology offers a single, broadly supported standard for connecting networked devices over any existing wired infrastructure in the home. With the rapid expansion of 4K (Ultra-high Definition) content and the ubiquity of multi screens in the home, the need for a robust, high throughput home networking fabric is more demanding than ever. The ability to deliver dependable coverage in real home environments that are plagued with interference obstacles such as surge protectors and appliances and the congestion challenges of MDUs is becoming essential for service providers to meet their customer's requirements.
The G-Connex combines the features of a streaming device with the robust transmission rates that Ultra-HD 4K will require. The matchbox size unit plugs directly into a wall socket and connects with a monitor or television via HDMI. It comes preloaded with an Android operating system but is capable of running Linux as well. From there a user can install any of the 1 million apps available to access movies, games, communications and other operation functions.
"Sigma was an ideal partner for our product," said ITS2X President, Ira Shorter. "The Sigma chipset delivers the speed and reliability we were looking for on our latest entertainment and networking product. We think our new G-Connex home streaming/networking device will be just the answer consumers are looking for to accommodate the latest streaming media and Home Automation needs."
G.hn Prime™ takes advantage of on-chip acceleration engines and algorithms to move data at up to three times the speed of the next-closest competitor's product under TCP protocol which is the dominant delivery protocol for today's streaming content. G.hn Prime is available as a firmware update included with Sigma's CG5300 and CG5200 chipsets.
In addition to the G.hn Prime, G-Connex also uses Sigma's Z-Wave Smart home Internet of Things (IoT) technology allowing home control functionality such as lighting and appliance control. There are over 1500 interoperable Z-Wave devices are in the market today from hundreds of different manufacturers which makes Z-Wave the market leader in smart home IoT.
The G-Connex utilizes Sigma Design's SMP8758 media processor to decode HEVC's Main-10 profile supporting the content industry's move to lower bit rate video at resolutions up to 4K. The HDMI video output is protected by HDCP2.2 for secure copy protection. The strong combination of CPU, GPU and SDK allows for a powerful middleware framework deployment for OTT and IPTV streaming services.
Sigma Designs will showcase G.hn Prime and ITX G-Connex at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show, January 6-9 in Suite 2991 at the Westgate. For more information about Sigma Designs, visit www.sigmadesigns.com . Follow us on Twitter: @sigma_designs Join us on LinkedIn: sigma-designs
