RowdMap, Inc. Co-Founder Speaks at Meridian with United States Ambassadors on International Health, Innovation and Policy

WASHINGTON, D.C., Dec. 29, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - Joshua Rosenthal, PhD, Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer at RowdMap, Inc. spoke at a Health and Innovation Leadership Dialog hosted by Meridian International Center in partnership with the French-American Cultural Foundation (FACF) and thanks to the support of the Richard Lounsbery Foundation.

Joshua Rosenthal, PhD, joined Dr. Mireille Guyader, U.S. Office Director of the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM); Dr. Brent James, Intermountain Healthcare Chief Quality Officer; Jimmy Kolker, Health and Human Services (HHS) Assistant Secretary for Global Affairs; and Louise V. Oliver, FACF President and former U.S. Permanent Representative to UNESCO.

Meridian International Center is a premier nonprofit, global leadership organization headquartered in Washington, DC. Building on more than 55 years of experience, Meridian prepares U.S. and international leaders to meet global challenges and opportunities by connecting public and private sector global leadership.

Meridian hosted this U.S. – France Leadership Dialogue on December 7th at the Meridian House in Washington, D.C. Topics covered health and the role, policy and the delivery of its care; innovation and the role of government, university and private markets in fostering its development and, finally, public health and the data, population health measurement and value propositions that engender its success. http://www.meridian.org/news/coverage-communi...nnovation/

Participants spoke about the inefficiencies in the US system, particularly around the waste generated from Health Information Technology (HIT) projects that fail to create impact as well as the no-value care created from a Fee for Services model of medical economics. Participants noted that US policy and programs from HHS and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) that focus on shifting the medical economic models to Pay for Value mechanisms are providing a path to minimize no-value and low-value care, which accounts for over $850 BB or roughly 3% of GDP. The increasing privatization of French markets and the role of universities and US government payment programs, including the release of public health data, also served as the subject of potential models for both the US and French systems.

"The US essentially has a single payer system as over 90 cents of every dollar comes from CMS, outsourced to payers and providers. Those who use the public data to minimize the no-value care from Fee for Service will succeed in Value-Based government programs. This is a great example of policy, meeting public data to deliver market value that creates public good." Joshua Rosenthal, PhD, Co-Founder at RowdMap, Inc.
