We do not refer to HD as 2K because it is misleading. HD TV has a total pixels of 2k which is why some people refer to it as 2k and argue that way. It was never referenced as 2k until 4K came along. This can be misleading because a 1080p (HD) resolution has 2K pixels but at UHD (4K) has 8K pixels. UHD or 4K is 4 times the pixels of HD. When you refer to it as 2K (and the industry standard is to NOT refer to it as 2K) then you sell the 4K short because in this scenario actuality it should then be refered to as 8k. The term given to full HD was 1080p not 2K. This is why the industry fought the term 4K in the first place. It is misleading.Nobody ever refered to 1080p as 2K before so now it is not accurate to refer to it as 2k.
If you calll UHD 4K and HD 2K, people will think that the difference is only double the resolution when in fact it is 4 times the resolution. We want people to know the difference and nobody in the industry is referring to HD at 2K. For some reason lots of people on this board have started referring to it as 2K. It should be called HD or 1080p.
