Shares of MagneGas Corporation (NASDAQ:MNGA), a small-cap alternative energy company, tumbled more than 18 percent Monday morning following a scathing report by The Pump Stopper' on Seeking Alpha.
MagneGas' stock has gained around 150 percent since the start of 2015 and hit a 52-week high of $2.50 on December 11.
According to The Pump Stopper, an investigation into MagneGas' business practice reveals that its partners are "nonexistent, defunct or unviable." The report also noted that the company's auditor was barred by the SEC for "falsified and backdated audit documents."
Finally, The Pump Stopper suggested that the company is merely an "imploding paid stock promotion shell" with an "immediate -92.90 percent downside risk."

Following that, many other law firms, always the same ones, publish press releases calling for shareholders who have lost on the stock to contact them and join a class action suit. Normally, although many law firms are publishing press releases stating there is a lawsuit, ONLY ONE law firm will have filed a suit. Often the lawsuits are dropped for lack of plaintiffs collected in time for the deadline set by the courts.
Also part of the pattern is the sudden appearance of many new users on the message boards of stock websites for the particular stock being targeted. These new users will claim to own stock and fan the flames of the negative press. As soon as the deadline set by the courts passes, these users disappear. Many even go back and delete their original negative posts. However if anybody replied to those posts you can still read the original ones.
SeekingAlpha.com normally publishes the pumpstopper.com negative articles. Yahoo Finance website used to include SeekingAlpha articles in their stock news feeds, but they no longer do
