Exactly, and not rely either on someone pumping the stock or bashing it. Once you do that you make your own decisions. That is what you should do. Approach the investment with an open mind, ignore all the chatter, research the claims and then make your own determination. Simple but at least doing that you cannot blame anyone but yourself. And sometimes the best ideas simply do not work in the market. That is the risk but accepting risk based on someone else's say so is not acceptable. Go for it.
The second skill is knowing how to approach persons/ companies/government to glean information to avoid a potential bias. Because you never know who is part of what so learning how to ask the right questions in the right manner is as important as asking the right questions. It takes time to develop those skills but once you hone them, they will serve you well. They will allow you to take advantage of good situations, and help you avoid bad ones. That is my only intent.
