Karma catches up with jerks. Shkreli would have gotten away with his schemes if he had just STFU according to NY Times quoted below. Here for so many years the SEC has just let these scams go by -- but because the narcissistic attention-seeker insisted on getting attention whatever way he could (and being a jerk is often the easiest way to get people to notice you), the SEC went after him. I'm sure that BOTH major political parties pressured the SEC, given that his actions became a campaign issue. (As major media have pointed out, the only thing that Clinton and Trump have agreed on is that Shkreli is garbage.)
"Still, he gambled and won. His scheme worked. He was caught not because his scheme crashed, but as far as Mr. Levine can tell, because he was so abrasive."
We can only hope that a newly-energized SEC will decide to go after the Mako bunch too, to show that the Shkreli prosecution was not pursued only because of his political impact.
I try to feel sorry for people who are obviously mentally ill so they act terribly, but it's impossible in this case.
