On Dec 14, 2012 my CA drivers license was up for renewal at age 65 that day. I received the notice 60 days prior, but was in no hurry...what the heck, I'll go in a few days before, take the written test, ace it like I due every 5 years...no biggy.
On Dec 1 did the line thing for over an hour, 1st up was the eye exam....FLUNKED. They gave me a 60 extention to get corrective lenses, come back, go thru the drill again.
Optometrist was booked till Dec 13, had the exam, "I can't help you, serious cataract in both" so ophthamologist was the next plan, took me till Jan 15 for an appt. Mind you, 30 days of that 60 used up.
1st surgery Feb 12, guy was booked till May 6 for eye #2, so off to the DMV I go thinking I'll get a license with 1 good eye at 20/20, explain the delay....NOPE...got another 60 day extention taking me to 15th of April. "But my next surgery is not until May 6." "You'll need to come in before April 15 for another extension."
Back I go before April 15, gave me another 60 days...got 2nd eye done May 6, waited 5 days per Dr instructions, headed in there proud as hell being 20/20 in both, ready to ace eye exam and written, NOPE! "You need to take all these forms to the Dr, get them filled out, signed then come back." That took me till 1st week of June, got in just before the 2nd extention expired...BINGO....new license!
A week shy of 6.5 months to get a Flippin Drivers License in CA!!!
21 weeks to date awaiting a pass from the FAA....BFD...capiche?
