Hi Daniel Wong
I just visited Best Buy in the Mall of America and talked to a Magnolia Room salesman about 4K sales and where purchasers can go for content. He said 4K were sold out at all lower levels and sold well at upper levels. Regarding content he said Netflix. I had to ask about Ultraflix. He took it upon himself to downplay UF. He knew that UF had movies but didn't respect the effort made not only by UF but also by the entire industry to get 4K content onto the market. He said that UF charged per viewing and that the price per movie was in the 35.00 range, where others sold at 10.00. He also said that 4K required 25 mbps. I countered that UF only required 4-6mbps and he immediately said that it couldn't be real 4K. Then he walked away.
This guy is a Magnolia Room salesman. If anyone is going to sell an expensive 4K TV at the MOA BB it is going to be this guy. This salesman will be the person who talks a customer into paying 2000 - 3000 for a new large 4K tv and sound bar and other attachments, and he is taking it upon himself to gatekeep UF. Of any customer walking into MOA BB, his customers will be the people that can afford and desire 4K content, and his very first reaction is to belittle UF.
Education needs to happen. Yes UF charges per movie, but UF is a choice for his customers to make, not for him to make for his customers. The entire TV industry is behind UF, but this guy is where the rubber hits the road, and he thinks he is important enough to make his customers decisions for them. He also hasn't been taught how UF transmits real 4K at 4-6 mbps.
UF has to prepare the sales script for "where can I find UF content". He didn't even say UF is the new kid on the block - try them out. He dissed UF on our first weekend on the national stage. Monday morning is too late to take this guy aside and let him know what he doesn't know he doesn't know.
...
I am not a techie, and did not know how to counter him on the 4-6 mbps, and the fact that he would fall back on Netflix and downplay UF left me no room to educate him about real 4K content. He was wooden headed. rather than educate himself about the various providers products, he chose to insult UF.
BB needs to get up to speed.
