Business Wire - Sat Nov 14, 6:00PM CST
Merck (NYSE:MRK), known as MSD outside the United States and Canada, today announced the presentation of results from an integrated analysis of patients with compensated liver cirrhosis (Child-Pugh class A) from six Phase 2 and 3 clinical trials evaluating the efficacy and safety of the investigational once-daily tablet elbasvir/grazoprevir(1) (50mg/100mg) with or without ribavirin (RBV) in patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotypes (GT) 1, 4 or 6 infection. Results from the full analysis set (FAS) (n=402) demonstrate that treatment-naive patients with compensated liver cirrhosis who received elbasvir/grazoprevir with or without RBV for 12 weeks achieved sustained virologic response 12 weeks after the completion of treatment (SVR12, or virologic cure) at rates of 90 percent (28/31) and 98 percent (135/138), respectively. Treatment-experienced patients who received elbasvir/grazoprevir with or without RBV for 12 weeks achieved virologic cure rates of 91 percent (74/81) and 89 percent (48/54), respectively. Treatment-experienced patients who received elbasvir/grazoprevir with or without RBV for 16 or 18 weeks achieved virologic cure rates of 100 percent (49/49) and 94 percent (46/49), respectively. These data will be presented during an oral presentation at The Liver Meeting(R) (Abstract #42).

Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/4z56z7/global_nonsmall) has announced the addition of the "Global Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Therapeutics Market 2015-2019" report to their offering. The global non-small cell lung cancer therapeutics market to grow at a CAGR of 6.77% over the period 2014-2019. The report covers the current scenario and the growth prospects of the global non-small cell lung cancer therapeutics market for the period of 2015-2019. To calculate the market size, the report considers revenue generated through the sales of various drugs used for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer. The report includes a discussion of the key vendors operating in this market. The non-small cell lung cancer therapeutics market in China grew exponentially in 2014. The markets in Australia, India, and Japan are expected to witness considerable growth during the forecast period. According to the report, current therapies available to treat non-small cell lung cancer do not provide a permanent cure, and approaches such as non-selective cytotoxic chemotherapy tend to cause toxicity in patients. Further, the report states that the increase in personalized therapies will lead to the fragmentation of the global non-small cell lung cancer market, thus presenting a major threat to this market. Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Therapeutics in Major Developed Markets to 2021 - Emergence of Immunotherapies Drives Market Growth and Creates A Competitive Second-Line
M2 - Thu Nov 12, 4:06AM CST
Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/j6j75w/nonsmall_cell) has announced the addition of the "Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Therapeutics in Major Developed Markets to 2021 - Emergence of Immunotherapies Drives Market Growth and Creates A Competitive Second-Line" report to their offering. Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) is the second most common cancer globally, and the most common cause of cancer-related mortality. Such a poor outlook, particularly for patients with advanced disease, has created a pressing need for improved therapeutic options. The NSCLC market is undergoing a gradual change from a focus on generic chemotherapy regimens to complex treatment landscape based on different NSCLC subtypes and the presence of various molecular aberrations. In the current market, patients with non-squamous histology can be treated with more efficacious therapies such as Alimta (pemetrexed), while patients harboring activating mutations in EGFR or ALK can be prescribed targeted therapy. While the NSCLC developmental pipeline must aim to improve the outlook for all patients, there is currently a lack of options for patients with squamous cell histology or other detectable molecular characteristics besides EFGR and ALK mutations. Scope: - The NSCLC market will be valued at $10.9 billion in 2021, growing from $6.1 billion in 2014 at a CAGR of 8.5%. - How will immunotherapies such as Keytruda affect growth? - What effect will patent expirations of Tarceva and Alimta have on market value? - The NSCLC pipeline is large and diverse, with an increased presence of mAbs and specific targeted therapies in contrast to the market. - What are the common targets and mechanisms of action of pipeline therapies? - Will the pipeline address unmet needs such as a lack of treatments for squamous cell patients? - What implications will the increased focus on targeted therapies have on the future of NSCLC treatment? - Numerous late-stage pipeline therapies with a strong clinical record have the potential to enter the market over the forecast period. - How have promising late-stage therapies performed in clinical trials? - How would the approval of Rociletinib affect the competitive landscape? - What is the individual commercial forecast for each therapy? - The market forecasts indicate that the US contributes the most to global market value due to a large treatment population and the high price of premium therapies. - How will ACoT and market size vary between the eight major markets? - How could a change in risk factors such as population age or smoking habits influence the market? - Licensing deals are the most common form of strategic alliance in NSCLC, with total deal values ranging from under $10m to over $1 billion. - How do deal frequency and value compare between target families and molecule types? - What were the terms and conditions of key licensing deals? Companies Mentioned - AbbVie - AstraZeneca - Boehringer Ingelheim - Bristol-Myers Squibb - Celgene Corporation - Clovis Oncology - Daiichi Sankyo - Eli Lilly - Merck - Oncogenex Pharmaceuticals - Peregrine Pharmaceuticals - Pfizer - Roche - Transgene For more information visit http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/j6...small_cell

Hepatitis B Therapeutics in Major Developed Markets to 2021 - Increasing Number of Migrants from High-Prevalence Regions to Drive Market Growth
M2 - Thu Nov 12, 3:57AM CST
Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/k3vf87/hepatitis_b) has announced the addition of the "Hepatitis B Therapeutics in Major Developed Markets to 2021 - Increasing Number of Migrants from High-Prevalence Regions to Drive Market Growth" report to their offering. Globally, the hepatitis B therapeutics market is served moderately well by the available products, of which Baraclude and Viread are the most frequently prescribed. However, both have received black-box warnings from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), meaning that the market has a high level of unmet need. Hepatitis B is an infectious liver disease caused by the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) and characterized by acute or chronic inflammation of the liver. Despite its status as a vaccine-preventable disease, it remains a serious global health concern. Incidence tends to be higher in countries with a significant number of migrants from medium and high-prevalence countries. Approximately 350 million people worldwide are infected with chronic hepatitis B, which causes significant morbidity and mortality. Around 780,000 patients die from hepatitis B each year, of which 650,000 deaths are due to complications such as cirrhosis and liver cancer. Despite this, diagnosis and treatment rates are poor, stemming from its asymptomatic nature. Scope: - The current hepatitis B market contains mainly nucleoside analog reverse transcriptase inhibitors, nucleotide analogs, and interferons. - Will these drugs continue to dominate hepatitis B treatment? - With 81 active pipeline molecules, most of the investigational drug candidates are small molecules and vaccines, comprising 64% of the pipeline. - What are the most prominent small molecules and vaccines in the pipeline? - Do the pipeline molecules offer advantages over commercially proven mechanisms? - Analysis of clinical trials since 2006 has identified a high rate of attrition in hepatitis B products. - How do failure rates vary by product stage of development, molecule type, and mechanism of action? - How do other factors such as average trial duration and trial size influence the costs and risks associated with product development? - Over the 2014-2021 forecast period, the hepatitis B market in the eight major markets is expected to increase in value at a CAGR of 2.3% from $2.9 billion to $3.5 billion. - Which markets make the most significant contribution to the current market size? - What are the epidemiology trends in these markets? - Which factors will influence growth rates in the different major markets? - Despite generic sales erosion resulting from patent expirations, the uptake of premium therapies tenofovir and entecavir will contribute to significant market growth over the forecast period. - Will patent expirations or emerging pipeline molecules threaten the commercial success of existing drugs? - Which patent expirations will have the most significant impact on the market? Companies Mentioned - Chiva - Dynavax - Ligand - Merck - NeuroVive For more information visit http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/k3...epatitis_b
