Yes, AVXL was attacked by Shkreli, the same guy who increased the price of a 50-year-old drug from 13.50 to 750/pill. He was a notorious short seller before he bought the pharmaceutical company.
He's not a scientist -- yet he tweeted that AVXL's drug "can't work" and then said he was confused about what the mechanism of action would be. How absurd that anyone would take that seriously -- clearly he was short and wanted to kill the stock. The several small traders' pumper/dumper gangs most likely started selling in the 13-14 range, so soon they will start buying back and pumping again.
The other supposed "bad" thing was that the abstract from the conference said that "a significant majority" of the test subjects had cognitive improvement. It's unrealistic to think that all patients would have cognitive improvement since the optimal dosing schedule has not yet been determined - that's the purpose of the study -- and there has been NO other Alzheimer drug to date that improves cognition. Current drugs seem to slow down progression (somewhat, and not very well), but as far as IMPROVING cognition -- no.
More results will be released on Saturday at the conference. I hope they are great and that all who sold short are in a world of hurt Monday morning. But I expect that they will cover today by the close.
