It can work both ways. I've done it both ways, and I'm doing it both ways now, but with the larger of my accounts I'm using buy and hold long term only, at least for the near term or until the action has "planed out" and slow cumbersome trading becomes a thing of the past with this stock in that account. I've been more aggressive with other stocks in that account, but they make it ridiculously cumbersome for pinks. No matter because buy and hold for the indefinite future will work just fine. I'm only a few cents from breaking back into the green and I'm certain this company will create huge value and shoot both of my accounts way into the green. Probably very soon too.
