This is a pic of a container ship taken ca 3-19-12 at the EIT terminal used by CWRN. In 2008 the port planned adding another berth to this terminal by 2009 (finances no doubt are holdup). The main expense in adding another berth to my knowledge would be adding another set of these cranes-the second berth space is already there -to the left of this pic is where cwrn's ore is stored near the far end of the dock-which besides the dust issue-is why they dont use port conveyors-would need a jumper conveyor from the ore pile to connect w the port conveyor system and that jumper conveyor would block access to the ore pile and other things at that end of the terminal. Most Handymax ships (the size cwrn has used to date) have their own loading equipment because they frequently visit small ports without loading equipment-and even the Panamax have cranes-usually 4 cranes for a 5 hold vessel-but not designed for loading from port apparently. Resized from over 2mb original.
