This same claim was made on the other site, and someone listed a number of trials which lasted longer than 3 years. If you think it's a good idea to just stop a trial without knowing what the maximum tolerated dose is, so that in your next trial phase you have limited the amount of drug that you can give to a test subject to a possibly ineffective amount (rather than a larger amount which WOULD work) -- well, your knowledge of the scientific method is, to put is politely, flawed.
I guess if I have to choose between a protocol agreed upon by Dana-Farber, or the wishes of someone posting anonymously on the internet, I'd choose the protocol that world-class scientists have designed.
