Looking back...
I see that I missed an interesting point from back in 2002...looks like Dr.J & Dr.Alivisatos have had a mutual respect thing going for each other, that was more direct than I had thought:

Alivisatos said his research was following in the Arizona team’s footsteps, while Ghassan Jabbour, an optical sciences professor at Arizona, told MSNBC.com that Alivisatos’ work was “excellent ... it’s another variation of doing photovoltaics.” http://www.nbcnews.com/id/3079001/ns/technolo...ia_CMaFPIU
In retrospect, their predictions for the nearterm realization of these techs missed the mark , but it seems like these 2 guys could do wonders together nevertheless, if they had closer ties
